Sustainability Research

The Sustainability practice is variously defined as the management of the triple bottom line (profits, people, planet) or business longevity. However, we at Phronesis™ think of sustainability as the retention of vitality over time that drives growth. Our outlook has been to make our clients’ businesses not only enduring, but prosperous and forward-looking. In order to do so, we examine their present business practices, with the objective of identifying processes, where sustainable practices can be assimilated, and resources that can be dedicated to the realisation of these practices. Our experience in this practice comprises areas such as EMS, CSR, stakeholder engagement, reporting and disclosure, product life-cycle analysis, et cetera.

We have long held that setting goals and standards for business sustainability can only be realised by using a bird’s eye perspective of the evolving business landscape and projected future scenarios, as a starting point for determining critical aspects of the undertaking. We use this to distinguish key areas for selective research into the implementation of sustainability initiatives. Having thus formed a sustainability hypothesis, we validate its accuracy and practicability through a combination of primary and secondary research. Lastly, we correlate it with best practices from the industry so as to provide prescriptions tailored to the clients’ resources and capabilities.
