Overview

The Saudi Youth Values project started in 2016 with a clear vision: understanding the deep sources of motivation of young men and women in Saudi Arabia in order to capture the current and future social dynamics in the country. Understanding what youth value over time and across different strata of society is an important contribution to the remarkable ongoing social transformation taking place in the Kingdom. The fourth edition of this study was a key milestone in the development of greater comprehension of youth values in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While professional development and financial stability remain a priority for youth, in 2020, it seemed that young men and women were attributing more importance to family and family well-being. Youth demonstrate cohesion and a high level of satisfaction with the speed of social transformation initiated in the country under the Vision 2030, with minimal differences across genders or regions. Saudi youth seem to be equally driven by a keen sense of progress and an important need for stability.

Research methodology

A survey was conducted at the national level, covering urban and rural areas of five regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A representative sample of 1001 Saudis between the age of 18 and 35 and over 35 was interviewed during the last week of October and the first week of November 2020. Given the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the survey was conducted online with all the necessary scientific rigor regarding sampling.
