Overview

The Vogue Business Index is the most comprehensive analysis of the world’s top 50 luxury fashion brands available to date. Combining unique consumer insights from Condé Nast’s readers with data across 200-plus metrics, the Index is designed to help investors and fashion professionals benchmark brands and find out which have the most momentum and why. The top 50 luxury fashion brands were selected based on their revenue.

The Index provides a data-driven assessment of brand performance and its development was overseen by an advisory panel of experts drawn from leading financial and professional services firms with expertise in consumer goods and luxury sectors.

Research methodology

Each category was weighted based on its relative importance to the industry and its ability to assess brands’ performance as a present and future-looking indicator. Weighting to each category and metric was also determined based on its ability to objectively assess a brand’s performance. For example, ESG seems underweighted given its importance to the global conversation, but the lack of an industry standard means that the level of disclosure from brands is inconsistent. The final weighting for each category was agreed following a review process with the advisory board. Financial performance compares brand level metrics, not parent company, based on published financial statements and, when not available, from financial press or analyst estimates.
