A new index for luxury brands based on 200 data points has been launched by Vogue Business to measure the performance of the world’s top 50 brands. The Vogue Business Index, which was produced with research firm Phronesis Partners, is based on 5 key themes and includes quantitative and qualitative data. Luxury brands operate in a complex ecosystem and consumers are more savvy than ever when it comes to buying decisions. The index can therefore be used to benchmark and to demystify the underlying reasons behind the performance of a brand.

The index is based on 5 key themes which are consumer sentiment, financial results, omnichannel, digital and environmental, social & governance. Covering 13 key luxury markets from around the world the index includes consumer data from 8,000 Conde Nast readers. Combining consumer data with other metrics means that the index provides a full and comprehensive view of the market. The consumer sentiment data provides insights on areas such as brand awareness, perceived quality, brand association, loyalty and purchase intent. The index will be updated in due course so that brand performance can be tracked over a period of time.

“Vogue Business Index is the only index available today that analyses and compares individual brand performance, and combines such a breadth of data, categories and unique consumer insight”, said Stephen Morgan, General Manager, Vogue Business. “It is an objective scorecard for businesses and the industry to understand brand performance and ultimately make better decisions”, Morgan said. Furthermore, he added “I was delighted to partner with Phronesis Partners due to their proven track record of providing insightful market research and deep understanding of the luxury industry. Their assistance was fundamental in developing an innovative methodology for the index.”

“We are glad to partner with Vogue Business on this initiative. The launch of the Vogue Business Index is timely as the luxury industry has never faced a bigger challenge than now” said Binayak Choudhury, Partner at Phronesis Partners. “This index provides greater insight to allow brands to make decisions on key areas that drive revenue, such as brand awareness, in-store experience, sustainability promises, and providing a seamless digital experience. With over 200 data points, the index is not only ideal for measuring performance but for pinpointing areas of improvement for fuelling growth”, said Choudhury.
